Any animal you have to trek three and a half days to find is endangered. I cannot believe why this species is not on the endangered species list, but hopefully that will change.
Well, this is a sad story we hear about all of our favorite, and not so favorite animals. Habitat destruction: It's real, and, oh yeah, it's destructive. Americans need to stop with all the pep rallies and "Save the Planet!" talks, and actually set up nature preserves. Reduce destruction; Reuse the buildings we've already made, recycle the land that is already clear of wildlife, repair animal habitats.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,523701,00.html A nightmare has come true: a plane has mysteriously disappeared off the coast of Brazil. Any chances of finding it are slim; the plane’s fuel would’ve run out already. While search parties hope to reclaim the jet, families are terror-stricken. Passengers of all ages and nationalities are lost. Different nations are uniting together as they search for their lost companions. Anxiety and fear has no doubt sprung up. The sure answer to the cause of the accident is pending. People have little hope. Even with this freak-accident, plane wrecks are rare. The chances are quite slim, considering the amount of planes that fly every day. The only thing we can do right now is be optimistic and hope for the best.
First off, I was going to do the same report on the plane, but the updated version.
A planed a disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean. that plane was going through it's routine, having no more contact until reaching France, it's destination. That plane was carrying 228 people, a great loss. Among the crew there were 3 Americans. Yesterday many people didn't know what happened to the plane. That plane was relatively new, 4 years old and was installed with weather radar. The pilot would be able to clearly see the weather condition. Yet even though the pilot saw high turbulant areas and a thunderstorm. The plane still flew on considering the fact that few planes crash because of weather. Yesterday many people thought that the plane was struck with lightning although that would be very rare. This story was left with a mystery.
Today, planes that were searching for the wreck found it close to Brazil. The wreck indicates that the plane flew into the water. The debris, that spanned to be three miles, was left behind when the plane crashed with the water. None of the passengers survived. There is also very little hope that the remains of the plane in the water can be found with the depth of the ocean. This was a very tragic losss.
For the first time ever, a robotic vehicle, called Nereus, has taken a plunge down to the Challenger Deep, which is the ocean's lowest point, located in the Mariana tTrench. This dive was 6.8 miles deep and set a record. Nereus exploring the Mariana Trench happens to be extremely significant because this is the first exploration of the trench ever since 1998! Because of improved technology, robots can take images and samples from some of the deepest points in the ocean, such as Challenger Deep. Scientists can now explore and learn much more about the deep ocean with the new discoveries. Nereus is a new kind of ocean vehicle that is called the hybrid remotely operated vehicle. The Nereus is powered by a steel-reinforced cable made of copper. Because it is controlled by scientists aboard a surface ship, it has optical fibers that let it give information to the ship. However,a cable could break in such a deep point in the ocean because of the pressure. So, new technology, such as a robotic manipulator arm and fiber-optic technology, has been created so it can withstand this pressure in the ocean. Nereus, while at the ocean, spent 10 hours collecting samples with its robotic arm and sent a live-video back to the ship. It collected sediment from tectonic plates and rocks from mantle depths. I chose this article for Newsclub because I was amazed about the technology and robots created these days to make new and amazing discoveries. With this new robot and the samples, scientists will now be able to elaborate on the idea of plate collisions and the world beneath us.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/06/10yearold-girls-brave-battle-with-breast-cancer.html A 10 year old girl has greast cancer and that's incerdibly rare for somone so young. Her father had a really hard time telling her this and she was afraid she was going to die. However, she has had a single mastectomy (which is having surgical removal of all/part of the breast and may include removing some muscles) and she is undergoing chemothery. She says that she's okay with having her hair cut off and having major surgery. Her father comments that they've been blessed with support, gifts, and love.
I choose this article because I've always thought of cancer as something to worry about whne you get older, but I never really imagined getting it at age 10. Also, I've never really been okay with surgery or anything and it's amazing she's not really scared that she might die or the surgery might go wrong. She has a lot of hope and faith-something I wish I could have and she seems pretty optimistic. Whne I read this article I was thinking about how I was close to her age and she was the one going through breast cancer. She seems like a good inspiration for people who are the half-glass empty kind of people and those who complain about how bad life is.
Yes I guess all of you knew I was going to do an article like this....
The dream is ruined. The anticapated LeBron-Kobe matchup has been destroyed. On May 30, 2009 the Orlando Magic knocked out the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Pepsi Center after dominating Game 6, 103-90. An angry James stormed out of the arena and never stuck around to congratulate the Eastern Conference Champions. This attracted much attention from the media. How could the star of the NBA not show proper sportsmanship?
After their loss, the Cavaliers were devastated. I think that the media should not criticize him about his words. Although I personally am a Cavs-LeBron fan, he does have reasons for his actions. In 2007 he made it to the Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, and was swept 4-0. This shocked him and diminished his hopes of winning a title. He is the only superstar in the NBA that has yet to win a title. Kobe of the Lakers has won three rings already, and LeBron has yet to prove his glory. LeBron James should not be blamed!!
Everybody just to let you know, this is Keira posting this comment. Sorry about the Ninja Turtle thing.
SUB SETS RECORD IN DIVE TO OCEAN'S DEEPEST TRENCH http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090603/sc_livescience/subsetsrecordindivetooceansdeepesttrench
This article is about how a robotic submarine traveled to the ocean's deepest point- the Challenger Deep.
In this article, a submarine- called Nereus- travelled lower than any other sub before, about 6.8 miles. Not only did this sub travel to the Challenger Deep, but it also kept a live journal during its journey, while scientists on land watched. It also took pictures of many different animal and plant species. With many techonogolical properties, such as a mechanical arm that extends outward from the submarine, it was easily controlled by scientists above. This submarine, called the hybrid remotely operated vehicle (HROV) took their plunge this Sunday and is the first sub to explore the Mariana Trench since 1998.
I chose this article because of the progress in technology and science that humans are making daily. Only a few years ago, human knew almost nothing about life in the deep ocean. But because of those curious minds who want answers, we have more information about this new and mysterious world. Because of these amazing submarines, school children like us are able to expand our knowledge of our Earth.
In this article, it states that 160 Eastern Airlines passengers still remained stranded in Los Angeles, after their flight was supposed to leave Sunday afternoon. The flight was supposed to depart at 1:30 PM on Sunday, but the flight was delayed because of problems with the landing gear. The passengers waited on the plane for 4 hours, until they were told to disembark. The airline brought replacement parts from China to fix the aircraft, and apparently many people booked flights on other airlines. Those who were stranded were put in a hotel and were provided free meals by the airline. They again boarded the plane on Monday, but as they were about to leave, the plane got the same problems again. The people went inside and sat at the check-in counter, and staged a sit-in, and that's when the police had to come. No one was aressted. Now they are still stranded there, waiting for their flight, as many people whine and complain about this problem.
I chose this article because I found it interesting how some people would wait 3 days just to get on the plane, instead of transferring to another flight. I think some of the people are asking way too much when they asked to be transferred to another flight without paying. They already are being provided free hotel stays and food, and they shouldn't be asking for a free ticket from another airline to Shanghai either. The airline company is doing their best to try to get the plane fixed, they even got new parts shipped from China. The people who are complaining and whining about how their flight isn't taking off are being a little bit rude. I could understand what it feels like, that if you have to get somewhere and you can't, but they should be a little more respectful and appreciate what this airline company is already trying to do for them.
In this article, it is said that manufacturers of computers are trying to make even more computers with touch screens because ever since the iPhone came out, the public has been clamoring for touch screen technology. HP has been selling PCs with touch screens for $1,150 and they have been a big hit. Approximately 2 million out of the 300 million PCs sold last year were touch screens. People say that the percentage of PCs with touch screens sold will continue to grow. Eventually, touch PCs will be set up as kiosks at sports events and restaurants where a customer could look at the menu on the computer. Also, PC's touch screen will be able to have many fingers touching it instead of only letting one or two.
Personally, I think that the more touch screens, the better! But the PC touch screens will not only be 'fun' for people, but more functional for companies because they will be able to serve as kiosks. Also, the fact that touch screen PCs will be able to handle more fingers touching the screen, allows the computer to be less confused if one were to accidentally touch it with more fingers. No wonder HP wants to make more computers with touch screens; they are an exiting new technology for many people.
This new Bavarian Motors Z4 is by the far the most “Bavarian Prize” ever to be touched by the finest engineers in Regensburg, Germany. It is cheap, cool, and fun and a pleasure to drive. The comments going against this finest machinery, I loathe. This car is perfect and good looking, in-and-out. It successfully succeeded the previous Z4, which was also a fine car. However, this new 2009 Z4 has many more new talents than its older twin, such as the style and safety. This Z4 begins the new generation of sporty-looking coupes and convertibles from the unbeatable Bavarian (German) Company, or “Germans Prize”, first created by Adolf Hitler. I first chose this article because I am obsessed with BMW. I knew the new Z4 was coming, so I looked for it. After reading this article, I know that the Z4 is by far the only coupe so far in the world ever to reach the standards of the best, ultimate, and perfect two-person seater. What else can you ask of it, for only six thousand dollars? This BMW Z4 will blast out any corvette, camaro, spider, solara, 3zo3, boxster, cayman, mclaren, civic, and any other sport care you can imagine. It’s that good. So watch out, when this BMW Z4 hits the road, it is going to dominate! This car is turbo charged with a 335i Drive! This is amazing. It exerts more power than the five series (except 550i and M5) and the one and three series! (Except for 135i, 335i, and M3) This car is only $60,000 dollars! This is a better deal than the 135i, 335i, 550i, and the M3. This Z4 also locks in style. What you want, this Z4 has in store. Let’s introduce the BMW 2009 Z4!!!
Lydia Wang #24 Dealership has less than a week to sell all its cars http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/06/02/dealership.closing/index.html Recently, Virginia car dealership owner Ray O'Bryhim had less than one week to sell all 40 of his Chryslers, Jeeps, and Dodges because after June 9th, he is no longer legally allowed to sell these cars. Not only his dealership, but nearly 800 Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership are being terminated due to the fact that last month, Chrysler made a national announcement stating that its dealer base is going to be shrunken. Currently, Ray has been able to sell 80 cars in less than about 19 days, and in desperation, cut nearly all the car's prices in half to sell more of them. This article especially appealed to me because recently, GM had an almost near bankruptcy and Obama attempted to keep this huge car dealership up and running. It hasn't been easy, but their repairs will pay off in time. However, with all these great dealerships shrinking their size and asking for more money, we may not be able to pay off for all of them in enough time to save all of them.
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-bandits-killed3-2009jun03,0,7082631.story By the way, this is Grace. My computer was malfunctioning, so Ryan posted it. This article is about two electrocuted bodies found in an abandoned driving range in Riverside County, suspected to have been trying to steal copper wire from an electrical box. San Jacinto officers received a report of fireworks, but discovered a fire when they arrived instead. Metal theft is a big problem in California, since thieves can cause many dollars worth of damage stealing from all sorts of things, like fire hydrants, street lights, wells, and sprinklers. A law to prevent it was initiated in December, and requires recycling centers, where metal thieves get their money, to take a customer’s photo, fingerprint, and identification for every exchange over $20. After three days, either a check is mailed, or the person can come to pick up their money. Since the price for metal has dropped drastically, the stealing has decreased too. I think it’s interesting to think that people would steal wire and metal, since it’s not the loot most people envision robbers taking. Still, metal once paid a high price at recycling centers, copper used to be $4 a pound, though now it’s only about $1.50. Still, the effect it had on government expenses was enormous. These thefts caused many inconveniences for citizens in California too. This event also reminds us to stay out of high voltage places like the electric box the two robbers were dealing with.
More debris found from Air France plane crash http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/06/03/france.plane.memorial/index.html
Searchers found four more debris fields Wednesday from an Air France jet that plunged into the Atlantic Ocean early Monday. This airplane contained 228 people inside of it. Before this, on Tuesday, searchers had found two debris fields and identified the wreckage as coming from Flight 447, the Airbus A330. Among the debris found on Wednesday, an oil slick was discovered that extended as far as 20 kilometers (12 miles). The Airbus A330 went down ~3 hours after take-off for an eleven-hour flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, France. Investigators have not determined what caused the plane to crash. The flight data recorders have not been found and the plane’s crew did not send any message signifying that they had any problems. Officials have said that the aircraft’s computer system did send about four minutes of automated indications that said there was a loss of cabin pressure and an electrical failure. Air France had received a bomb threat May 27 for a flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Paris. Officials, who had briefed on the incident and declined to be identified because of the ongoing investigation, claim that the Air France office in Buenos Aires received the threat from a man speaking Spanish.
Lamar Odom of the Los Angeles Lakers has recently spilled his story of his love of candy. He admits that the games he’s ‘played well were the games where I ate candy for breakfast,’ and it’s why he gets ‘double digits in points and rebounds.’ Dr. Daniel Amen, a psychiatrist in Newport Beach, however, disagreed greatly. He wrote an essay about how it’s going to get bad for the Lakers because of Odom’s candy love. He writes, ‘it causes blood sugar levels to spike and then crash, leaving you feeling tired, irritable, foggy and stupid.’ He also suggests that eating too much sugar may be the reason why Odom ‘doesn’t always make the smartest decisions on the court.’ Odom has had an aching back lately, which may be the result for eating so much sugar. He thinks that Amen is wrong, though, and that he consumed a plate of jellybean Starbursts to begin the two game days from last week. His personal assistant keeps an entire candy stash, including Twizzlers, Gummy Bears, Hershey’s, cookies, Lifesavers, and others. The Lakers coach Phil Jackson says that he’s gotten many emails from doctors about how a lot of sugar causes problems, but he says that ‘Lamar we know is not a kid anymore. He doesn’t really do that much sugar.’ Lamar Odom, #7 of the LA Lakers, may be a lover of candy, but he knows when too much is too much.
I chose this article because I wanted to do something related to sports, mainly the Lakers because of the NBA finals, but Mohammed took my article, so I went with this one. It mainly caught my eye because of the word ‘candy’ and when I read it, I thought it was very interesting. Especially because it focused on what Odom was saying, what his teammates were saying, and doctors, too.
I think Odom can control himself, because he’s not obsessed with candy, he just loves it. And I don’t see anything wrong with that. It’s like someone liking ice cream, or loving sushi. And besides, since when were basketball players not allowed to eat candy?
As a huge Laker fan, I chose to do this artical for my Newsclub. Up against a team with little experiance, the Magic, the Lakers have a huge chance to win. Although many may say that the Magic swept the Lakers this season, their comment is of little value. When the Playoffs begin, there is a new momentum and craving to win the NBA Finals, as all the Playoff teams have taken one step closer to the NBA Finals. The Magic have done a good job this season, from crushing the two eastern powers, the Celtics and the Cavaliers. I agree that the Lakers are a bigger force with their 3 powerful centers and one of the best players in NBA history, number 24, Kobe Bryant. Dwight Howard, the man who holds together the Magic has done a fantastic job throughout this season, playing his best against every team. He took advantage of the Lakers in the beginning of 2009, without their young, talented center, Andrew Bynum. Without Andrew Bynum, the Lakers are down one big force in the paint, and another valuable six fouls. On the otherhand, with Bynum, the Lakers are one team to reckon with. I must admit that this Finals will be very interesting, tight, and physical.
This article is about Osama Bin Laden sending Americans a new audiotape threatening President Obama. I believe that Obama is exerting the necessary force against the Taliban and the countries that they reside in, but I do not believe that Obama is following "the same footsteps as the last president," as Bin Laden alleges. Instead of declaring the Taliban and the countries under their control a national enemy like Bush, Obama tried to repair frayed relations. After all, why would Obama send a U.S. envoy to ease relations in Afghanistan and Pakistan for the first time? Although I know that Bin Laden's audiotape is not to be taken lightly, but I think that Bin Laden is afraid of Obama. He fears Obama because of his popularity with the whole world, his Muslim roots, and even his middle name, Hussein. In my opinion, Obama should take advantage of this fear and ask Bin Laden to talk with him. Since this would raise security issues, Obama should be guarded by secret service and military. If that worked out, it would greatly improve relations between America and the Taliban.
This article pretty much takes a different look at unemployment by exploring the lives of 20 and 30 year old's who have used unemployment as a vacation (until their money dries up). People think that this shows that people are learning to make better of the bad economy.
I liked this article because it shows that you can still make a good thing out of a bad situation and it just gives people who read it a good mood. I think that this article also gets at what lots of people who think they are going to be unemployed fear: never getting a job again. These people don't worry about job applications: they just push it off and procrastinate...
Thanks for reading my newclub! Happy procrastinating!
Joysticks and push-button controllers are OUT! They are being replaced by simpler, more advanced controls which allow gamers to move their body to guide the avatar on screen. The three big gaming companies are on fire! Sony unveiled a prototype of a motion-sensing controller, and the PSP Go. Even yet, a system Microsoft created (project Natal) totally elimintes the need for a controller. Nintendo has added technological improvements to the popular Wii gaming system, and is also aiming to make their video games more social and women-targeted. I chose this article because firstly, the title really grabbed my attention. Video games are a form of entertainment that lots of kids, including me, often play, so i was interested. Also, I found it very interesting that these three gaming companies are coming up with even BETTER improvements. Also, I am curious to see how these improvements will help these three companies, because the economy is fluctuating constantly and even though many may be attracted to these new "video games", money might be an issue.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/06/03/rare.diseases.price/index.html PLEASE DON'T READ!! THIS ARTICLE IS INTERESTING.
This article is about the world trying to enforce research on rare diseases after the fm that demonstated the pain that kids and adults deal with when they have rare diseases. Genzyme the pharmaceutical company is oen fo the few that research and develop drugs for rare diseases. People call the rare diseases "orphan", since almo no one cares about them. Countries around that world are moved by the film and are trying to develop drugs to cure these exotic diseases. I think that the world should do something about these diseases, since none could be left behind. If there is cancer research, there should be ALD research too, along with other various diseases. It is not fair for people with rare diseases to just sit there and suffer while the cancer patients are doing well with new recovery drugs. But with the bad economy, there should be another way to get money for research. People could have fundraisers and have 10% of the money they use to buy food, drinks, and other goods sent over to use as research money.
I chose this article because the movie "Up" has been highly recommended by everyone I have talked to. Although many have said it is a sad ending movie, it has touched the heart of many watchers, that it was named the No. 1 watched film in the theaters this week. It earned $68.2 million in ticket sales.
This toatl almost came up to par with the Pixar mega hits "The Incredibles" and "Finding Nemo". Both of these movies are great movies that I really enjoyed watching at the theaters because they had important lessons and are incredible adventures that kids love! <3
"Up" is definitey one of those rare good movies that even ticket buyers over the age of 50 go and see! This movie is recommended for everyone to watch. (By the way, I am not getting paid to advertise!)
I have an update on the plane. It turns out like Daniel said that there was another debris field 12 miles away. It most likely indicates that the plane broke in half, before it crashed into the water. The two theories that scientest have is that the high turbulance broke it apart, and also that terrorist were invovlved. That is why the plane supposedly crashed.
President Obama is clearly loved by many Egyptians. People prayed for him to win, and he did have an astonishing victory. Ayman Nour was one of the people who had prayed for Barack Obama to win. He was in his prisoner cell, praying and hoping that Obama would win. Ayman was the competitor of Hosni Muburak, but was accused of electoral fraud and sent to jail. Nour received an invitation to President Obama’s address to the Muslims, but he refused but said he’d watch it on TV. "That way," he said, "if I hear something I don't like, I can always change the channel with my remote control." President Obama is the famous American president in Egypt so far. However, the relationship between the U.S. and Egypt is quite disappointing. People are waiting for direct initiatives and not a speech with no action. "It can't be all rainbows and roses," said El-Katatney, the journalist. "We don't want any more grand promises. Obama talks brilliantly, but we've become a bit cynical." I believe that President Obama will bring a peaceful speech and promise many things, but only a few things will be taken into action. Like most other rulers, they make more promises than actually take responsibility of the problem and fix it. The Arabs and many other people are waiting with hope for what will happen at the speech.
I picked this article because it immediately caught my interest. Plus, I have close connections with penguins. Months ago, I took a field trip to Sea World. I loved the experience and I got to sleep in the penguin exhibit with my troop. The penguins’ squawking and clumsy motions had me oohing and aahing in utter pleasure. The guide also mentioned that their coloring blends in with their shadows, which I also read in this article. First, I went to the Science and Technology tab of www.ocregister.com. When I saw the title of the article, I was immediately drawn in! I absolutely love penguins. Memories of my Sea World adventure flooded my mind. This article is about how British scientists are using satellites are tracking emperor penguins by their poop because it stains the ice and is easier to track than the actual penguins. So far, the new technique has helped the scientists identify 10 new groups of emperor penguins. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/06/02/penguin.satellite.images/index.html
Just 20 years ago, the calm streets of Beijing were flooded with protesters who were angry with the government. The people wanted the corruption in the government to end. After hunger strikes, parades, and rallies in Tiananmen Square the government decided that the protests were a threat to authority. They ordered in hundreds of tanks 80,000 soldiers from all across China. The soldiers barricaded the city of Beijing. Finally, during the evening of June 4, 1989, the protesters were told to evacuate Tiananmen Square before dawn or the soldiers would begin shooting. On June 5, 1989, the tanks began to run over protesters, soldiers opened fire, and fires were started. By June 6th, the shooting stopped, hundreds of tanks were leaving Tiananmen Square in a single file line. Out of nowhere, a young man in a typical white shirt and black pants holding shopping bags stepped in front of the entire line of tanks. When the tanks tried go around him, he blocked the path. He climbed up onto the tank. Finally, he was pulled aside and disappeared with the crowd. It is unknown to this day if he is still alive and who he was. Meanwhile, a photographer in a nearby hotel snapped a picture of his heroic deed. This picture became a universal symbol of bravery. This article stood out to me because I instantly recognized the picture of “Tank Man” (the nickname given to the unknown hero). Apparently my uncle had been with the protesters until my grandma brought him back home. My parents had gone to Los Angeles to protest as well. I look up to “Tank Man’s” audacity. I was fascinated by this one ordinary man’s courage to stand up for what he believed in.
Thanks to those who participated in the inaugural online news club experience this week. I'd say it was a success, considering it is the first time. A few suggestions (requirements) for next time: 1)Your post needs to include your name (ID at the top of post or your signature at the bottom)2)There were a LOT of problems in the editing area - make sure you read your work and edit before submitting, 3)Be sure you include a thoughtful reflection that actually has relevance to the topic (no rambling). On a side note, I give the "post of the week" award to Kristina. Her post above gives a very meaningful reflection. Well done! In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed Caroline's very sincere thoughts on penguins. Until next time, Mr. I
Is there going to be a next time? I thought news club was over? (not that I've ever been on it, or anything.) *ahem* *ahem* But isn't CEL the only thing left. Right?
P.S. just wondering. Why were you awake at 12:34 AM?

ReplyDeleteYes I guess all of you knew I was going to do an article like this....
(I hate the Magic)
Everybody just to let you know, this is Keira posting this comment. Sorry about the Ninja Turtle thing.
ReplyDeleteSUB SETS RECORD IN DIVE TO OCEAN'S DEEPEST TRENCH
http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090603/sc_livescience/subsetsrecordindivetooceansdeepesttrench
Stranded passengers still waiting to depart LAX for Shanghai
ReplyDeletehttp://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-china3-2009jun03,0,3713589.story
PC Touch Screens Move Ahead
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/03/technology/03touch.html?ref=technology

ReplyDeleteThis new Bavarian Motors Z4 is by the far the most “Bavarian Prize” ever to be touched by the finest engineers in Regensburg, Germany.

ReplyDeleteDealership has less than a week to sell all its cars
http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/06/02/dealership.closing/index.html
Recently, Virginia car dealership owner Ray O'Bryhim had less than one week to sell all 40 of his Chryslers, Jeeps, and Dodges because after June 9th, he is no longer legally allowed to sell these cars.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, this is Grace.
More debris found from Air France plane crash
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/06/03/france.plane.memorial/index.html

ReplyDeleteThe Sweet Story of Lamar Odom’s Love of Candy

ReplyDeleteLakers have no excuse not to win handily

ReplyDeleteThis article is about Osama Bin Laden sending Americans a new audiotape threatening President Obama.

ReplyDeleteFUNEMPLOYMENT
This article pretty much takes a different look at unemployment by exploring the lives of 20 and 30 year old's who have used unemployment as a vacation (until their money dries up). People think that this shows that people are learning to make better of the bad economy.
I liked this article because it shows that you can still make a good thing out of a bad situation and it just gives people who read it a good mood. I think that this article also gets at what lots of people who think they are going to be unemployed fear: never getting a job again. These people don't worry about job applications: they just push it off and procrastinate...
Thanks for reading my newclub!

ReplyDeleteJoysticks and push-button controllers are OUT!

ReplyDeletePLEASE DON'T READ!!

ReplyDeleteI chose this article because the movie "Up" has been highly recommended by everyone I have talked to.

ReplyDeletePresident Obama is clearly loved by many Egyptians.

ReplyDeleteI picked this article because it immediately caught my interest.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I went to the Science and Technology tab of www.ocregister.com.

How an Iconic Image Came to Be
ReplyDeletehttp://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2009-06-03-chinaphoto_N.htm

ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I give the "post of the week" award to Kristina. Her post above gives a very meaningful reflection. Well done!
In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed Caroline's very sincere thoughts on penguins.
Until next time,
